The Line Shadow Warriors Volume 2 Bob Mayer 9780984257539 Books

Intriguing concept and really high profile for today and these times we are living. Anything goes seems to be the way of it. This story is all the more plausible for those reasons. I really got into the characters. Liked them and some not so much. There are villains to be sure. It's an edge of the seat atmosphere all the way through. I was amazed at the wealth of information about the military and how things operate. It must really take a special kind of person to adapt to that way of life.

I want to say that this story should make you think. There is more there than a story. Some of the characters engage in soul searching about what they face in the role they are playing. For me, it went deep. I was in sympathy for the challenges that had to be faced at a moments notice. Strength abounds in those conditions and sink or swim is the order of the day. I gained added respect for those who serve our country. I believe we must always keep them in our hearts and offer our gratitude in all ways possible.

Thank you Bob Mayer for this insightful novel. I absolutely loved the way you handled the ending. I look forward to reading more of your craft.

The Line Shadow Warriors Volume 2 Bob Mayer 9780984257539 Books Reviews

I had no idea what I was getting into when I downloaded this book. I love to read, especially history, but am not a big fan of “action” books. This novel by Bob Mayer though kept me on the edge of my seat. From the opening where a Special Forces team encounters an unexpected challenge right through to the end, This is a page-turner. I will definitely check out some of his other books, but as a writer myself, more of non-fiction than fiction, I love the fact he gives back to the writers of the world with advice and guidance. If you like suspense, action and history mixed together, you will enjoy reading this author’s trove of novels.
This book is titled Black Ops so you might be inclined to think it is part of the Black Ops Cellar series, but it is a completely different cast of characters and a different universe.

As others have mentioned there are some editing errors.

The characters are well developed and there is a good amount of suspense in the story which centers around the idea that a small group of military academy grads have developed more influence than they probably should and engaged in all kinds of inappropriate conduct including murder to influence US politics.

Its more or less plausible, but like virtually all these kind of conspiracy thrillers, its not really believable so much as enjoyable. Its a roller coaster ride of thrills and chills.

You probably won't be surprised to find that the special forces side of the military is cast as more or less the good guys while some military academy grads (mostly West Pointers it seems) are cast as the heavies. The author sort of misses a major ethical/moral point in the whole story. There really are no good guys in the mess he portrays. If the guys portrayed as the "good" guys were really good, they would have exposed the plots long ago instead of having some kind of simmering war over them with another part of the military for 40 years.

Forgetting the minor quibbles I mentioned above, it is an enjoyable read, and at $2.99 for the edition, its an inexpensive read as well.
With but a few minor errors on weaponry and one MAJOR mistake I enjoyed this book a great deal.
The major discrepancy I found is toward the end of the book where a corporate jet aircraft, to wit a Learjet 25B factors into the story.
First, unless you are of Liliputian dimensions, you DON'T "lean back" in the pilots seat. Nor do you stand up and pass through any door aft of the cockpit. And you DON'T do any kind of roundhouse kick to an adversary standing in the aisle.
In other words, the 25 Series Learjet is very tiny as far as corporate jet aircraft go. All this I know from working for the company that manufactures them for ten years.
There are many more discrepancies revolving around the aircraft, to include egressing the cabin door and jumping overboard to parachute to safety. That is a CERTAIN way to DIE!!
But overall this is a worthy read.
Get it.
I found this book to be annoying, tedious, and far-fetched. The book is 50 pages too long and filled with needless technical military jargon and acronyms that the average reader will find unbearable. At one point in the book, the lead character Boomer Watson a Delta Forces Major says, "You've lost me", his head still spinning from all the acronyms in the armed services". Gosh, if he can't follow the terms, how can the non-military reader follow? Answer, he can't. I thought with all the good reviews that I would enjoy this "Seven Days in May" wannabe, but I was woefully dismayed by the book and especially the soap opera-like ending. It was a pure waste of 7-8 hours.
The premise of this book is that a group of select West Point graduates contrive political and military situations that ultimately enrich the Military-Industrial complex. Its conspiracy theories cover everything from WWII, U2, Bay of Pigs, Vietnam, etc. The author has created Super Hero like protagonist characters that accomplish various task that rival Marvels Hero's. The author moves the story and action along at an edge of your seat pace, but other times the book falls to almost dull. I read this in the E-book version and it seems to have by-passed the editors desk. There are numerous grammatical errors which seem to occur with more frequency in the second half of the book. I struggled between giving 2 or 3 stars.
The bottom line is I would not tell a friend that this is a must read piece of fiction.
